Verona

Verona

Biography

Verona is a Czech Europop and disco duo formed in May 2002 in Prague. The project was founded by producer and composer Peter Fider and singer Markéta Jakšlová; Peter discovered Markéta thanks to her vocal teacher Lída Nopova while searching for a performer for his new project.

Their musical style sits between pop and dance: early tracks were mainly club-oriented, but over time the duo blurred the lines between dance and pop and incorporated elements from other genres. From 2005 they also began writing songs in English to reach an international audience.

Their first major hit was Náhodou (2003). Other hits include Nejsi sám, Krásnej den, Jen tobě, and Den co den. In 2011 their song Hey Boy reached number one on the IFPI TOP 100, and in 2012 Ztracená Bloudím was chosen as song of the year.

Across their career, Verona won several awards, including Best Dance Act at the Music TV Očko Awards (2003) and the Progression of the Year award at Český Slavík (2004). The duo released six albums, two DVDs, and performed over a thousand concerts in the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as in Bulgaria, Poland, the United States, and China.

In 2018 Veronika Stýblová became the group’s new singer.
