Biography

Velile Mchunu, known by her stage name Velile, is a South African singer and actress born in 1973.

She grew up in a township in Durban and was trained at the “Committed Artist Academy” in Johannesburg.

Her career took off thanks to her leading role in the musical The Lion King.

She is also famous for the song Helele, associated with the Football World Cup.

In 1999, she met Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson on the occasion of a Nelson Mandela birthday celebration.
