Vaya Con Dios
Biography
The Belgian group Vaya Con Dios was formed in Brussels in 1986 by singer Dani Klein, double bassist Dirk Schoufs and Willy Lambregt. The collective’s name, which means ‘Go with God’ in Spanish, reflects their interest in an eclectic musical universe, although it is not centered on electronic music.
Their debut single, Just A Friend Of Mine, was a major success in France. Subsequently Willy Lambregt left the lineup and was replaced by Jean-Michel Gielen. The group broke through in the Netherlands in the summer of 1990 with the song What's a Woman?, which reached number one on the charts.
In 1991 Dani Klein and Dirk Schoufs chose to go their separate ways; the latter died soon after. From then on Dani Klein became the permanent central figure, surrounding herself with various musicians for albums and concerts, including Sal La Rocca, Thierry Plas and Danielle Schoovaerts.
Vaya Con Dios’s repertoire includes other notable tracks such as Nah Neh Nah, Don't Cry for Louie, Puerto Rico and Heading for a Fall. The group enjoyed great popularity in several European countries.
After a hiatus at the end of the 1990s, Dani Klein reformed Vaya Con Dios and released new albums in the 2000s. Over the course of their career, the group sold several million records worldwide.
