Tatjana

Biography

Tatjana, whose real name is Tatjana Šimić, is a Dutch singer, actress, and model of Croatian origin, born on 9 June 1963 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia (now Croatia). She grew up in Zagreb before moving to Rotterdam with her mother and sister in 1979.

Her recording career began in 1987 with her debut single Baby Love. In 1988 she achieved European success with Chica Cubana, followed shortly after by Awaka Boy. In 1992, she recorded a duet cover of Can't Take My Eyes Off You with Dutch singer Gerard Joling.

Her first full-length album was released in 1993 and included the track Feel Good. Her best-known hit, Santa Maria, was recorded in 1995. A remix by Mike Stock and Matt Aitken of the famous trio Stock Aitken Waterman turned it into an international dance hit that even reached the US Top 40. A remixed version, Santa Maria [Wah-hey Mix], was used in the British TV series “Queer as Folk” in 1999 and later appeared on the show’s soundtrack.

The album “New Look” came out in 1997, accompanied by the single Calendar Girl, which did not achieve the same success. In 2000 she released another dance track, Baila Baila. It was not until 2008 that Tatjana recorded her first songs in Dutch.
