Strike

Biography

Strike is a British electronic music group formed in 1994, consisting of producers and DJs Matt Cantor and Andy Gardner, as well as singer Victoria Newton.

The trio formed following a chance encounter in a recording studio, where Cantor and Gardner, arriving early, heard Newton working.

Their breakthrough to the mainstream audience is mainly due to the handbag track ‘U Sure Do‘, released in 1994. This track, which samples the song “Serious” by Donna Allen, was a major success, reaching 4th place in the UK Top 40 in 1995 after re-entering the charts.

Although the group released other singles afterwards, none matched the success of ‘U Sure Do‘.

Their album ‘I Saw The Future’ marked a shift towards a more progressive sound for the group. However, by that time, the dance scene had evolved and their work remained relatively underground.

Subsequently, Victoria Newton embarked on a solo career in the early 2000s, with the support of DJ and producer Paul Van Dyk.
