Biography

Stephen Lawrence Winwood, professionally known as Steve Winwood, is an English songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, born on 12 May 1948 in Great Barr, West Midlands. He first became known as a member of several bands, including The Spencer Davis Group—with whom he recorded the hit Gimme Some Lovin'—as well as Traffic and Blind Faith.

In the late 1970s he began a solo career. After a period of reduced commercial momentum during the 1970s, he returned to success in the early 1980s with While You See A Chance. His 1986 album Back in the High Life marked a major resurgence, generating key hits such as Higher Love and The Finer Things.

He released the album Nine Lives in 2008 and toured that same year alongside artists including Tom Petty.
