Sophia Somajo

Biography

Sophia Somajo, full name Sophia Somajo Venai, is a Swedish artist from Stockholm, born on January 2, 1985. She is a singer, singer-songwriter, producer, and also a fashion designer.

Her musical career is marked by strong artistic independence. In September 2008, she released her first album, The Laptop Diaries, entirely written and produced by herself. The entire album was recorded and produced on a simple laptop in her room, a craft approach that was praised. For this work, she received the SKAP Jubilee Scholarship award on December 22, 2008, recognizing her talents as a producer, composer, and lyricist.

Sophia Somajo’s music, often described as electropop or electronic, is considered niche, and she has been described as a “true indie artist” by Rodeo magazine. She states she does not want to compromise her personal music to sell records. In parallel, she writes more commercial songs for other artists.

She has collaborated with several other Scandinavian artists. In 2009, she contributed to the track Pusher with rapper Henok Achido. She also worked with Juvelen and Adam Tensta. Her songwriting activity for others is notable: she wrote six of the thirteen tracks on Vincent Pontare’s album Lucky Thirteen (released in 2007), including the radio hit Miss Blue. She also co-wrote the track Time Machine for Robyn.

On April 5, 2012, she released her second album, That Time I Dug So Deep I Ended Up In China, offered as a free download via The Pirate Bay and SoundCloud. This work includes the track Who's Gonna Love Me, which had been previously released.

Sophia Somajo is also known for producing her own music videos, in which she sometimes appears accompanied by a clown. She occasionally uses the shortened stage name Soso and has also performed under the alias Tiffany Amber.
