Biography

Samira is a German singer and songwriter, also known under the alias Samira Besic. She is the daughter of Bosnian parents and was born and raised in Berlin.

She began her music career in 1992 as the vocalist on Getaway for the project Maxx. As she could not appear in the video clip, Alice Montana was hired to provide a face for Samira’s voice.

She then launched a solo career with the singles When I Look Into Your Eyes and Love Train, released on Shift Music and successful across Europe and internationally. When I Look Into Your Eyes was written by Douglas John Wilgrove and Samira, and composed by Mike Michaels and Mark Tabak (of Triple M). It first came out on vinyl in October 1994, followed by a CD single in January 1995 and a remix CD including remixes by Cabballero; it reached #3 in Israel.

Released in 1995, Love Train included the B-side Fairvoice, written by V. Lindner. Her third single, The Rain, arrived in 1996: written by V. F. Bell, it peaked at #4 in Israel and was licensed in France through WEA.

Alongside her solo work, Samira appeared as a singer, songwriter and composer on several other projects, including We Get Around by Slam, Do What You Want by Bongo Beat, and Wanna Hear The Music by GE ConXion.

She released another solo track in 1997, I Can’t Get You, written by K. Madison, C. S. Hill and Samira. In 1999 she made an unexpected comeback with It Was Him, written by François Berhneim and produced by Kalvin Madison, featuring a contribution by Bad Maxx; in France, the single was released as La Plage (It Was Him).
