Reel 2 Real

Reel 2 Real

Biography

Reel 2 Real was a US house project from the 1990s, led by Erick Morillo and Ralphie "Boy" Muniz (real names: Erick Morillo & Ralphie Muniz).

Driven by Erick Morillo, the project’s first release, The New Anthem (1992), quickly became an underground hit.
The next single, Go On Move (1993), introduced the voice of rapper Mark Quashie, also known as The Mad Stuntman, and his strong reggae and dub influences became the project’s trademark.

In 1994, I Like To Move It was released and established itself as one of the biggest dance hits of the 1990s.
Follow-up singles Can You Feel It?, Raise Your Hands, and Conway, along with new commercial remixes of Go On Move, confirmed Reel 2 Real’s success in the United States and Europe.

The project’s 1996 return was less notable. The first single, Are You Ready For Some More?, leaned heavily toward Eurodance.
Jazz It Up, initially released as an instrumental under the Erick Morillo Project, was produced in collaboration with Barbara Tucker and Charlotte Small, while Move Your Body (Mueve La Cadera) featured the group Proyecto Uno.

The Reel 2 Real alias was dropped the same year; afterwards, Erick Morillo spent a few years establishing himself as an underground DJ.
Erick Morillo was found dead at his home in Miami Beach, Florida, on September 1, 2020. The cause of death was not immediately known, but Miami police reported no obvious signs of foul play.
