Real McCoy
Biography
Real McCoy is a German electronic music project best known for its international 1990s eurodance and pop hits such as Another Night, Run Away and One More Time.
Originally known in Europe as Real McCoy, the project’s initial success was driven by producers Juergen Wind (J. Wind) and Frank Hassas (Quickmix), who wrote and produced the early hits under the team name “Freshline” in Berlin. Their flagship single, Another Night, released in 1993, propelled the act.
On stage the project was represented by German rapper Olaf Jeglitza (O-Jay) and American singer Patricia Petersen (Patsy), forming a duo. In 1994 Vanessa Mason joined for live performances, and in 1995 Olaf Jeglitza, Patricia Petersen and Vanessa Mason were officially presented as a trio under the shortened name Real McCoy.
It was later revealed that Patricia Petersen and Vanessa Mason did not actually sing on the studio recordings: they lip-synced to the studio singer Karin Kasar for all video clips and concerts between 1993 and 1995, with Kasar uncredited.
The final album, One More Time, was released in 1997; it was produced by Juergen Wind without the participation of Frank Hassas. After Patricia Petersen departed, singer Lisa Cork was recruited. With Karin Kasar no longer involved, the album’s vocals were recorded by Lisa Cork and Vanessa Mason. Olaf Jeglitza collaborated on the writing with American songwriter/producer Brent Argovitz.
Although the single One More Time achieved commercial success in Canada and Australia, album and subsequent single sales were disappointing compared with the previous album Another Night, leading to the group’s dissolution in 1997.
Afterward Olaf Jeglitza continued to release new singles independently under the name Real McCoy without success. Since 2016 Olaf Jeglitza has again performed live as Real McCoy with the original studio singer Karin Kasar at festivals dedicated to 1990s music.
