Randy Katana

Randy Katana

Biography

Randy Katana, whose real name is Randall E. Joubert, is a DJ and producer born on March 14, 1965, in Saint-Martin, in the former Netherlands Antilles.

He lived in the Netherlands, Curaçao, and Aruba before continuing his studies in the United States.

At the age of 17, while vacationing in Aruba, he was already DJing in the island’s biggest clubs.

He launched his producer career in 1988 and founded the BPM Dance label.

After moving to Amsterdam in 1988, he also set up a highly successful online vinyl shop, Only-Djs.com.

Following difficulties in the music industry, he devoted himself fully to DJing and became a resident at renowned Amsterdam clubs such as Xtra Large and Crazyland.

Often categorized as trance, hard trance, and tech-trance, his sound draws on rhythmic experiences gained in brass bands playing carnival music, giving it a tribal and Latin soul.

He entered the DJ Mag Top 100 ranking in 2005.

Over his career he has used several aliases, including DJ Randy, Katana, Phantom, Noski, Randy Joubert, M. A. D. MAD, and Alter Codec.

He is also known by the name variations R. Katana, R.K., and Randy Kantana.

In the mid-2000s he worked on an album intended to merge his signature tribal-tech sound with the electro trends of the time, though its release was postponed.
