Nightcrawlers

Nightcrawlers

Biography

Nightcrawlers is a Scottish house music project assembled by producer, DJ and singer John Reid (born 6 September 1963) from Easterhouse in Glasgow.

Formed in 1992 after Reid’s local success as a DJ and vocalist, the project initially released the single Living Inside A Dream, which failed to find commercial success.

It was with the 1992 track Push the Feeling On that the project truly broke through: in its original version the song reached number 7 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart and climbed to number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for fifteen weeks.

The project’s sound was radically transformed by American producer Marc Kinchen (MK). His remix, originally released as ‘The Dub Of Doom’ in 1992, reinvented the track by focusing on edited vocal samples; heavily played in the underground scene, this remix reached number 22 on the UK charts in October 1994 when commercially released.

A new series of remixes in 1995 eventually propelled Push the Feeling On to number 3 in the UK, making it John Reid’s biggest hit in his home country.

Collaboration with Marc Kinchen defined the subsequent Nightcrawlers career: MK remixed several singles that regularly returned them to the UK top 10, such as Surrender Your Love (UK #7), Don't Let The Feeling Go (UK #13), Let's Push It (UK #23) and Should I Ever (Fall in Love) (UK #34).

MK also worked closely with John Reid on the Nightcrawlers album “Let's Push It”, repeatedly reshaping tracks to his signature sound.

The flagship track’s longevity was confirmed in 2004, when new remixes of Push The Feeling On returned it to the US Dance chart, this time reaching number one.

Members who took part in the project include Ross Campbell, John Reid, Hugh Brankin, Graham Wilson and Ronald Wilson.
