Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge

Biography

Moulin Rouge was a Slovenian (ex-Yugoslav) italo disco group that found success in the late 1980s with the singles Boys Don't Cry and High Energy Boy.

The group was formed by Matjaž Kosi after leaving Videosex in 1985. Originally, it was an all-male trio, with members including Marko Banič and Miki Šarac.

Their first national release was a self-titled two-track EP in 1985, featuring the songs Svet je za Glorio and Mi plešemo.

In 1987, the group—now a mixed-gender duo made up of Matjaž Kosi and Alenka Šmid—released its first full-length album, “Moulin Rouge”. The album compiled all previously released Slovenian-language singles, along with their international hit Boys Don't Cry.

Moulin Rouge later issued several more singles and two English-language albums aimed at the Japanese market.

In 1988, the group took part in “Jugovizija”, the Yugoslav preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song Johnny je moj, placing fifth.
