Biography

Stanley Kirk Burrell, known by the stage names MC Hammer and Hammer, is a prominent figure in pop and hip-hop culture. Born on March 30, 1962, in Oakland, California, he rose to international fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

His career is marked by global hits like U Can't Touch This, which samples Super Freak, and 2 Legit 2 Quit. His visual style, notably his characteristic parachute pants, and complex choreography made him a veritable phenomenon.

Beyond his music career, Hammer diversified as an entrepreneur, actor, and producer. He produced groups like Oaktown’s 3.5.7 and founded his own label, Bust It Records, signing artists such as Doug E. Fresh.

He also collaborated with numerous other artists, including Teddy Riley, Felton Pilate, Big Daddy Kane, Tupac Shakur, and the duo BeBe and CeCe Winans. In 2012, he shared the stage at the American Music Awards with Psy for a mashup of Gangnam Style and his own hit 2 Legit 2 Quit.

His television work includes the animated series Hammerman in 1991, the reality show Hammertime in 2009, and a religious program titled M.C. Hammer and Friends on the TBN network.
