Matoma

Tom Stræte Lagergren, professionally known as Matoma, is a Norwegian DJ and producer born on 27 May 1991 in Flisa, in the municipality of Åsnes.

He began playing piano as a child and won a competition that led him to perform alongside pianists Håvard Gimse and Leif Ove Andsnes. After growing tired of classical piano he turned to computer-based mixing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Since his debut in 2015, Matoma has gone from an amateur producer releasing on SoundCloud to one of the biggest stars in electronic music; between his solo singles, two albums and collaborations with artists ranging from Dua Lipa to Snoop Dogg, he has amassed over two billion streams.

His music, often associated with tropical house, is characterized by upbeat energy, irresistible melodies and universal storytelling; it blends vintage synthesizers with the warmth of instruments played by local musicians. Matoma describes his production as a natural extension of his personality, imbued with positivism and a constant pursuit of positive impact.
