Markus Gardeweg
Biography
Markus Gardeweg is a German house DJ and producer, born on January 10, 1969 in Hamburg. His career began at the age of 12 by collecting vinyl and organizing parties where he played dance, funk and soul. He then hosted student and sports events before performing in renowned Hamburg clubs (Palladium, Bit on Jungfernstieg, Third World Club, Traxx).
His career took a decisive turn when Jens Thele, founder of Kontor Records, called him to replace the resident of the Kontor club, earning him the resident position. His international breakthrough occurred in Ibiza, where Tom Novy handed over the decks to him for a night at Pacha. Since then, he has performed regularly across Europe (Russia, Spain, Austria, Switzerland) and at Pacha venues in Munich, Berlin, Dresden and Düsseldorf.
A pioneering figure, he is closely associated with Kontor Records, Germany’s most successful dance label, where he holds the position of senior A&R manager and is considered the house soul of the label. He is the curator of the compilation series «Kontor Top Of The Clubs» and hosts a namesake radio show broadcast on many stations.
As a producer, his greatest success is the 2004 remake of the classic 25 Years, realized with Sono and the original singer Don Snow, which directly reached number one on the MTV Dancefloor charts. He has also signed remixes for artists such as Narcotic Thrust (for I Like It), Lisa Stansfield, The Potbelleez and Ian Oliver. In October 2009, he made his comeback with the track Fairplay (Let There Be Love), produced in collaboration with Michael Feiner, the Sunlovers and Jens Kindervater, accompanied by remixes from D.O.N.S. & DBN.
