Mad’house

Biography

Mad’House is a French house group known for their covers of Madonna songs.

The project began when French DJ Mukendi M'Bambi and musician-producer Stéphane Durand Targa (aka Blend) discovered an amateur mashup online titled Madonna vs. Black Legend: You Are Like a Prayer to Me, which mixed Madonna’s Like a Prayer with the house rhythm of You See the Trouble With Me, a 2000 track by the group Black Legend. They decided to produce a higher-quality recording.

To realize the project they recruited Dutch singer of Turkish origin Buse Ünlü. The single Like a Prayer was released and became a major hit: it reached number one in Germany, number two in Belgium, number five in the Netherlands and spent 31 weeks in the French Top 50, peaking at number five.

In June 2002 the group released the album Absolutely Mad and two further singles: Holiday (peaked at number 10 in the Top 50) and Like a Virgin.

Mad’House’s concept inspired other musicians such as King of House and Funkbuster, who covered Michael Jackson tracks, and Queen Factory — a project by Stéphane Durand Targa — which covered Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.
