Biography


Born 8 October 1994 in Bern, Luca Hänni started learning drums in kindergarten and taught himself guitar and piano at nine. After school he worked as a mason before launching a music career in 2012.
In April 2012 he won the 9th season of Deutschland sucht den SuperStar (final on 28 April) with 52.85% of the vote; he received €500,000 and a contract with Universal Music Group, becoming the first non‑German and the youngest winner of the show.
His debut single, Don't Think About Me (2 May 2012), composed by Dieter Bohlen, became gold in Switzerland and reached number one in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The album My name is Luca was released on 18 May 2012, reaching No.1 in Switzerland and Austria (gold) and No.2 in Germany.
On 24 August he issued the single I Will Die for You. In March 2013 he won a Swiss Music Award (International Revelation); he was nominated for an Echo (Best New International Act) and won a Kids’ Choice Award (Favorite Star).
Subsequent albums include Living the Dream (April 2013, No.1 Switzerland) and Dance Until We Die (April 2014, No.6 Switzerland). In 2014 he released Only One You in collaboration with the DKMS charity.
In early 2015 he spent a month in the United States (Jan–Feb) preparing When We Wake Up, produced in Los Angeles by Fabian Egger with contributions from Andre Meritt and James Fauntleroy II.
He represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with She Got Me, finishing 4th with 364 points (semi‑final 16 May, final 18 May). In 2020 he competed in the 13th season of Let’s Dance (3rd place) and served as an investigator on the first season of The Masked Singer Switzerland.
Personal life: in a relationship since 2020 with dance partner Christina Luft; married August 2023; became parents of a daughter in June 2024.
