Lewis Capaldi
Biography
Lewis Marc Capaldi, born 7 October 1996 in Scotland, learned drums and guitar as a child and began singing in pubs at age 9. He was discovered by his manager Ryan Walter after a bedroom recording uploaded to SoundCloud, and he launched his music career at 17.
His mainstream breakthrough came on 8 November 2018 with the release of his second EP Breach, which includes the global hit Someone You Loved. The song charted in more than 29 countries and was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The same year, at the Brit Awards, he won Best New Artist and Song of the Year.
His debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, was released on 17 May 2019. Featuring the singles Grace, Someone You Loved and Hold Me While You Wait, it debuted at number one in the UK and Ireland, became the best‑selling album of the year and was certified gold one week after release.
After postponing concerts in 2021 to work on his second album, he returned to the stage in summer 2022 as a headliner at major festivals. The lead single from that album, Forget Me, released in September 2022, became his first UK Singles Chart number one, followed by Pointless in January 2023 and Wish You the Best in April 2023.
His second studio album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, was published on 19 May 2023. Alongside his music, he launched a frozen pizza line, « Big Sexy Pizza », and the documentary How I’m Feeling Now was released on Netflix in April 2023.
Following his rapid rise, Capaldi experienced anxiety and performance pressure, developing nervous tics; in September 2022 he revealed a diagnosis of Tourette syndrome. He is a first cousin of actor Peter Capaldi, who appears in one of his videos.
