Karol
Biography
Karol, whose real name is Carole Daubies, is a French singer from Hergnies, near Valenciennes.
Her artistic career began in northern France with the musical comedy «Arenberg», about mining, which ran for thirty dates. She then took part in the TV show «Graines de Star» on M6.
She narrowly missed joining the famous girl group L5, formed after the first season of the talent show «Popstars». Although she was among the last ten contestants and even considered a favorite, her vocal color did not match the group’s concept.
After leaving «Popstars», she reworked the song «Bateau blanc» by Sacha Distel; the single sold 90,000 copies excluding downloads. In 2006, she also found success in Poland with a cover of «L’Oiseau et l’enfant» by Marie Myriam, reaching number one on the charts.
Both singles entered the French Top 50. She later opened for many artists, including Gilbert Montagné (twice), Herbert Léonard, Julie Pietry, Alan Théo, Claude Barzotti and Ève Angelli.
She especially enjoyed working with Gilbert Montagné, describing him as kind, with great musical sensitivity and boundless energy on stage; their collaboration was a success, marked by joint autograph sessions.
Today, Karol has turned the page on «Popstars» and singing. She lives in Paris, where she is director of an early-childhood organization and a trainer at a childcare school.
