Julie Thompson

Julie Thompson, full name Julie Donna Thompson, is a singer and singer-songwriter from Norwich, United Kingdom.

She began singing, writing songs, and playing piano at the age of 14. After moving to London to pursue her music career, meeting producer James Holden marked a turning point. Together, under the name Holden & Thompson, they produced the classic track Nothing in 2003, released on Fatboy Slim’s Loaded/Skint label. The track appeared on many prestigious compilations.

In 2004, she collaborated with the British band Freestylers on the tracks Losing You and Too Far for their album, leading her to tour with them across Europe and Southeast Asia for a year and a half, performing at major festivals like Glastonbury and V Festival.

The second Holden & Thompson single, Come To Me, was released in 2005. The following year, in 2006, she collaborated with Alan Bremner under the alias Attic on the track Last Goodbye, released on the Audio Therapy label.

Her career reached an international dimension when she was approached by DJ Tiësto. Their collaboration resulted in Do You Feel Me, included on the successful album Elements Of Life (2007). Julie Thompson then joined the worldwide Elements Of Life tour to perform the song live.

Again with Tiësto, but under his pseudonym Allure, she wrote and recorded Somewhere Inside. This track appeared on the compilation In Search Of Sunrise Volume 6 and was released as a single in February 2008, including a remix by Scottish producer Andy Duguid.

Demonstrating her versatility, she moved away from pure trance in 2007 to collaborate with the British house producers Freemasons on the track You’re Not Alone Now for their album Shakedown.

Her collaboration with Andy Duguid continued on his album Believe, for which she lent her voice to three tracks with distinct moods: the emotional progressive track Falling, the gentle ballad White Sands, and the 80s-influenced electro-rock track My Number, performed under her alias Donna, derived from her middle name.

Encouraged by her label Black Hole Recordings, she dedicated much of 2008 and early 2009 to writing her first solo album, Feeling For Corners, which she describes as a lyrically honest, song-centered project, entirely written on piano. The album was co-produced by Andy Duguid. Julie Thompson explained that the album title evokes a period of transition and letting go, reflecting both dark moments and lighter, uplifting moments from her life.
