Biography

Jordi Carreras (born 22 August 1966 in Barcelona) is a Spanish DJ, radio host and producer, also known under the aliases Jordi Carreras, Jordi Carreras, Jordi Carreras and Jess-C DJ. He started in radio in 1984 and became a resident club DJ from 1985, focusing on styles such as Disco, Funky, Dance, Soulful House and Deep House, and has emphasized the role of resident DJs.

In 1988, he placed second in the Catalonia championship and fourth at Spain level in the DMC. In 1991, he became runner-up in Spain in Tele 5’s DJ contest.

Alongside DJing, he built a major media career and worked for Spanish stations including Cadena 40, Cadena 100, Flaix FM, RAC 105, Loca FM, Ibiza Global Radio and Ibiza Sónica. He hosted shows such as Music Show, Dance People, Prive and Mary’s Place. In 2006, he created Deejay FM Online, presented as the first online radio station linked to a Spanish music magazine.

In 1993 he moved into entrepreneurship with BCN Plastic S.L. and took part in creating PLASTIC Barcelona, described as the first shop specialized in DJ gear and accessories. From 1993 to 1997 he was a member of BCN Plastic S.L. and the Plastic Records label, and was also involved with the Plastic DJ Academy. He founded Barcelona’s official DJ Academy, which trained close to 2,000 students.

From 1997 onward, he became a key figure in the specialist press as executive director of Revista Deejay, then a reference publication for Spain’s dance scene, reaching around 30,000 copies and 150,000 monthly readers under his leadership. He also created the Deejaymags, presented as the first major national awards dedicated to dance music professionals, with support from SGAE and Fundación Autor. He later ran Trax, which became BEAT Magazine, until 2011.

As a producer, remixer and megamixer, Jordi Carreras has been involved in around 25 discographic references, including El Bimix, Sábado Noche (Radio Mix), Puzzletron and Supermix 2 & 3. He is also credited in Spain with initiating the first vinyl collections Club Beats, focused on beats and scratches.

His work also extends to training and the music industry: head of training and marketing at PLASTIC, teacher and director of studies at his DJ academy, creator of courses for SGAE/Fundación Autor, and participant in a Generalitat de Catalunya working group aimed at developing a future professional qualification for Disc Jockey.

He has also worked with Pioneer DJ as an official tester in Spain, advisor and creator of Spanish-language video content. He has taken part in events and for organizations such as FC Barcelona, the UEFA Champions League and the Mobile World Congress, as well as major clubs and hotels in Spain and Ibiza.

Jordi Carreras also describes himself as a “deejayologist”, focused on the historical, theoretical and scientific study of the DJ profession. He is the author of the book YO DJ II, dedicated to the DJ universe, and his career combines DJing, radio, music production, specialist press, entrepreneurship and teaching.
