Jes
Biography
Jes is a singer, songwriter and producer, born and raised in New York.
She studied art and voice at an art school and began experimenting with music production in friends’ studios. From the age of 16 she recorded her first vocal takes as a reference vocalist and worked as a backing vocalist for several major labels.
In 2001, while working in a recording studio in Los Angeles, Jes met Mike Olson; they formed the group Guardians of the Earth, which had some success on MP3.com with tracks such as Starchildren (included on Paul van Dyk’s 2001 Ministry of Sound compilation The Politics of Dancing) and One Moon Circling.
She also collaborated with producers like D:Fuse, Deepsky and Solar Stone, producing tracks such as Living The Dream, Ghost and Like A Waterfall. The latter appears on In Search of Sunrise 4 by Tiësto, with whom she performed selected dates of the Tiësto In Concert tour.
Her best-known work is her collaboration with Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden (of the duo Gabriel & Dresden), which led to the project Motorcycle. Their 2003 hit As the Rush Comes reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart in 2004 and became that chart’s first year-end number one the same year, earning Jes international exposure and allowing her to perform at larger venues and festivals such as the Bacardi Festival in Lebanon, Fresh in Malta, the World Electronic Music Festival in Toronto, Escape In The Park in Wales, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver.
In 2006, Ghost was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Together with producers Steve Sidelnyk and Sean Spuehler, Jes recorded her first solo album, Disconnect, released in August 2007 on Tiësto‘s Black Hole Recordings and on Magik Muzik.
