Biography
Jan Johnston is an English singer and songwriter, born on February 21, 1968, in Salford, Lancashire.
She is particularly known for her numerous collaborations with some of the world’s leading trance DJs, earning her the nickname ‘First Lady of Trance’. Her voice features on many tracks by renowned producers of the genre, notably those of Brian Transeau.
Her career began in the early 1990s when she was signed to Columbia Records as part of the pop duo J.J. After this project ended, she shifted her focus to electronic music, appearing on numerous dance and trance productions, primarily on the Perfecto Records label.
Her vocal style is associated with the trance, vocal trance, and progressive trance genres. She is also listed under the names or variations Ian Johnston, J. Johnston, Jan J., Jan Johnson, Jan Johnsten, Jan Johnstone, or simply Johnston.
