Biography

Funkstar De Luxe, real name Martin Aulkjær Ottesen, is a Danish producer, DJ, and remixer born in 1973, primarily active in the fields of house and electronic music.

He is best known for his successful remix of Sun Is Shining, which sold over one million copies. The track was a global success, reaching the Top 20 in nine countries, including a number three position on the UK Singles Chart, and was awarded the best-selling international reggae single of the year at the World Music Awards. Following this success, he had another hit with a remix of Rainbow Country.

Throughout his career, Funkstar De Luxe has produced numerous remixes for other artists, including Tom Jones, Mary J. Blige, Grace Jones, and Barry White. These works are featured on the compilation ‘Keep on Movin: It’s Too Funky in Here’. Known as the “Danish remix king,” he took two breaks during the 2000s before returning to the forefront in 2013 with a remix of You Keep Me Hanging On.

In 2003, he released an album of original compositions titled ‘Funkturistic’. In 2014, his long-time label Lifted House released an anniversary version of his hit, ‘Sun Is Shining – 15th Anniversary’, which reached number one on the British Dance Chart.

He is also working on an EP, whose first single ‘Million Miles’, featuring Michael Jackson collaborator Geoffrey Williams, reached number eight on the British Dance Chart and spent ten weeks in the UK Dance Top 20.

Funkstar De Luxe is also active under the aliases Martin Ottesen, Jose Boquerones, and Deepkixx. The project is known by many name variations, such as Funkstar, Funk Star Deluxe, Funkster De Luxe, or Funkstar Delux.
