Earphones

Earphones

Biography

Earphones is an Italian dance/house project born from the artistic collaboration of producers Roberto Terranova and Luca Lento with singer Buzzanca. Members are Luca Lento, Roberto Terranova and Giuseppe Recupero.

The collaboration between Luca (DJ) and Roberto (musician) began in 1995; they explored electrofunk (Contact Three), house (Slow&Newland) and successful commercial projects — Bamble B., Naive and Kninck Knack — made with Vincenzo Callea of the Ti.Pi.Cal. team.

Under the name PooperScooper, the same team remixed Edge of Universe’s first two singles, Afterlife and Life Force (top 10 sales in Italy), and Dj Pied Piper’s hit Do you really like it?, No.1 in the UK with over 600000 copies sold.

Earphones’ first single, Lie To Me (a cover of a Depeche Mode original), reached the top 10 of all dance charts (Deejay Parade, Discomania, Los Cuarenta) and No.28 in the sales chart.

The second single, Primetime-Sexcrime, established Earphones as one of Italy’s leading acts: No.18 in sales, top 5 in Italy’s dance charts, top 20 in Scandinavia and No.1 in Russia, where the group is well known and often requested for concerts.

Short Happy Life followed, reaching No.35 in sales (FIMI/Nielsen), the top 10 of major dance charts (Radio Deejay, Radio 105, Radio Italia Network) and staying in the top 10 of sales in Russia.

The fourth single, The Ballad Of A Clochard, retained Earphones’ distinctive style while leaning more club‑oriented, reaching the top 10 of dance charts and the top 40 in sales (FIMI/Nielsen).

The album This Is Pop? includes, besides these singles, several promising tracks. Obsession, co‑written by Luca, Roberto and Ben ‘Jammin’ Robbins, features a special collaboration with Smash!! and is already a major success in Russia. Singer Buzzanca returns on Birds, a track that recalls the group’s early hits.

The ballad Angel In Me reveals the group’s romantic side. This Is Pop? is a cover of a track by XTC. The final four tracks — Human Being, No Jesus Preching, Assembly Line and Y.O.Y — blend electro‑pop and 80s new wave.
