DJ Energy

DJ Energy

Biography

DJ Energy, real name Roger Beglinger, was a Swiss trance DJ and producer, born on October 6, 1973, and died on August 14, 2011, at the age of 37.

His career began in the late 1980s and took off in the 1990s through his involvement with the “Energy” rave party held at the Hallenstadion after the Zurich Street Parade. He was instrumental in popularizing the trance style and was one of the first DJs to release his mixes on CD, contributing to the commercial distribution of the music.

He is known for producing the official anthem of the “Energy” party ten times. In 2004, he caused a sensation by shooting a pornographic film during a Swiss Street Parade after-party, later released on DVD. Until 2010, he was the only DJ to perform at every edition of “Energy” at the Hallenstadion.

DJ Energy died on the night of August 14, 2011, after the Street Parade, in his apartment in Zurich. The autopsy report determined the cause of death was mixed intoxication involving numerous substances, leading to central regulatory failure and brain death. He was known to be taking medication for severe pain following a fall at home in July 2011 that caused an ear injury and a torn shoulder tendon.

He was also known under the aliases Roger NRG and Roger Beglinger, as well as the name variations D.J. Energy, Energy, or N.R.G.

His discography includes numerous singles, often related to Energy event anthems like Believer (Energy 96 Theme), Set You Free (Energy 98 Theme), or Liberty (Energy 03 Theme) with DJ Tatana, as well as many mix compilations such as “Live at the Streetparade” (1995), “Megatones” (1997), “Asteroid” (1998), or “Best of 1995 – 2005” (2005).
