D.H.T.

D.H.T.

Biography

D.H.T. is a Belgian electronic pop duo composed of singer Edmée Daenen (born 25 March 1985) and Flor Theeuwes (born 28 July 1976). The project’s name evolved over time: originally Danger Hardcore Team, shortened to D.H.T., later interpreted as Dance.House.Trance and more recently as “Don’t Hate This”. The group is produced by Bas van Tilburg, Flor Theeuwes, Jeffrey Vissers (known as Danger Hardcore Team) and Jan Vervloet (known as Thunder Deejay), but Flor and Edmée remain the public faces.

The project started in 1995 as a group including MC Jerky (Flor), DJ Bass, DJ Malone and others, achieving international success in the Gabba scene. In the following years Flor enjoyed mainstream success in Belgium and the Netherlands with projects such as DJ Da Rick and Da Boy Tommy. In 2001 Edmée Daenen, then 15, joined to provide female vocals on recordings and began performing on stage with D.H.T. in 2003; other founding members later moved to background producer roles.

Originally a producer and performer of Happy Hardcore, D.H.T. gradually abandoned its underground image and sound in favor of a more accessible approach: the old logo (a yellow skull) was dropped and the sound became more radio-friendly. Notably, while the earlier lineup had a large fan base in Belgium, the duo’s new incarnation is little known there and receives little media attention or radio play.

The group is known in clubs worldwide and released several singles in parts of Europe. Their biggest success came in 2005 with their cover of Listen to Your Heart, which reached the US top 10 and also succeeded in Australia, making D.H.T. one of the very few artists, and one of the few Europeans, to reach the US top 10 with a trance track. An acoustic version of Listen To Your Heart, aired on radio, was used as a tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
