Circ

Biography

Circ is an electronic music duo formed by producer Alexander Perls and vocalist Madelin Lane, also known as Madelin Zero. Their legal name is Alexander Perls & Madelin Lane.

They met at a Sonic Youth concert on The Bowery in New York City in the summer of 2001. At the time, Perls had been living in New York since 1998 and was working for video artist Matthew Barney. Lane had moved to the city six months earlier and was scouting talent for daytime soap operas.

Perls was looking for a vocalist for a track called Destroy She Said, while Lane wanted to try singing. Their first recordings took place in Perls’ basement studio in Chinatown, near the East River in Lower Manhattan.

The vocal tracks for Destroy She Said were recorded in a single hot summer night in 2001, four months before September 11. The lyrical reference to “towers” is coincidental.

Their debut album, “Love Electric”, was released in Germany in 2004. The duo broke up in 2005.

Their musical style is associated with dance, electronic, electro, trance, and experimental. Alexander Perls is also known for his projects 009 Sound System and Icebreaker International.
