C.C. Catch
Biography
Caroline Catharina Müller, known by the stage name C.C. Catch, is a German singer and songwriter, born 31 July 1964 in Oss (the Netherlands).
She moved with her family to Germany in the late 1970s.
Her career began in 1980 as a member of the female quartet “Optimal”.
From 1985 she collaborated with producer and composer Dieter Bohlen, who wrote and produced all her songs during that period.
That collaboration brought major successes in continental Europe, notably the songs I Can Lose My Heart Tonight, Cause You Are Young and Heartbreak Hotel, all released in 1985,
as well as gold and platinum albums that built her a large audience.
The partnership began to break down in the late 1980s when Caroline Müller wanted to contribute her own material to the creative process, which Bohlen refused, leading to their split in 1989.
That same year she recorded in England the album Hear What I Say, partly produced by Andy Taylor (of Duran Duran), with contributions from Dave Clayton and Joe Dworniak.
The album, featuring seven songs co‑written by her, marked a notable stylistic change from her previous work.
The album met only moderate success, the public perhaps struggling with the radical change and with her former label Hansa releasing a simultaneous compilation of her Bohlen‑produced hits.
Afterward C.C. Catch withdrew from the music industry, took up meditation and married a yoga teacher in London.
She returned in 1999 with a series of concerts and regular, successful tours.
In 2004 she released the single Silence, written by herself, which reached number 47 on the German pop chart,
and she continued her career thereafter with moderate success.
