Bomfunk MC’s

Bomfunk MC’s

Biography

Bomfunk MC’s are a Finnish breakbeat and hip-hop supergroup formed in 1997 by Ismo "Gismo" Lappalainen and Raymond "B.O.Dubb" Ebanks.

Their track Freestyler became Europe’s best-selling single in 1999. Active until around 2005, the group later re-formed starting in 2018 or 2019.

The founding members and main architects of their sound are producer Jaakko "JS16" Salovaara and MC Raymond "B.O.Dubb" Ebanks. Co-founder and DJ Ismo "Gismo" Lappalainen left in 2001 to pursue other projects, though he returned for the reunion.

The lineup evolved over the years. Other contributors include bassist and keyboardist Ville "Mr. Wily" Mäkinen, drummer Ari "A.T." Toikka, and keyboardists/DJs Riku "Infekto" Pentti (also known as Rico Tubbs) and Okke Komulainen. The latter three also formed the DJ trio Skillstersplusone.

Often classified as eurodance, their style blended electronic, breakbeat, and hip-hop elements, helping drive their international success in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
