Bobby Brown

Biography

Bobby Brown, born Robert Barisford Brown, is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer born on February 5, 1969, in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

He began his career as a member of the R&B and pop group New Edition, which he joined at its formation in 1981 and left in December 1985 to pursue a solo career.

His second album, *Don’t Be Cruel* (1988), was a major commercial and critical success, producing several singles that reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, including the number-one hit My Prerogative and Every Little Step, which earned him a Grammy Award.

Alongside his frequent collaborator Teddy Riley, he is considered one of the pioneers of new jack swing, a style fusing hip hop and R&B.

In 1992, he married pop superstar Whitney Houston. The couple had one daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown. Their relationship, marked by personal struggles, was highly publicized. They divorced in 2007.

His following album, *Bobby* (1992), spawned singles like Humpin' Around but did not match the success of its predecessor.

He returned to New Edition on multiple occasions for reunion albums and tours, notably from 1996 to 1997 and in 2005.

Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston also starred in the reality television series *Being Bobby Brown* in 2005.

He remarried in 2012 to Alicia Etheredge, who is also his manager.

Among his other aliases or name variations are B. Brown, Bobbie Brown, Robert Brown, or ボビー・ブラウン.
