Atomic Kitten

Atomic Kitten

Biography

Atomic Kitten is an English girl group formed in Liverpool in 1998. The group was founded by Andy McCluskey and Stuart Kershaw, members of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, who were the main songwriters during the early years.

The original lineup comprised Kerry Katona, Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton; Heidi Range was also a member between 1997 and 1999. The group released their first album, “Right Now”, in October 2000, which reached number 39 on the UK albums chart.

After five top-10 singles, Kerry Katona left the group four weeks before Whole Again reached number one in the UK; she was replaced by former Precious singer Jenny Frost.

Whole Again became the group’s most successful single, topping the UK chart for four weeks and the German chart for six weeks. In the UK it became the 13th best-selling single of the 2000s and the fourth best-selling song by a female group in the country.

The group reissued “Right Now” with Jenny Frost’s vocals on some tracks; the album then reached number one in the UK and was certified double platinum with over 600,000 copies sold.

Between 2002 and 2004, Atomic Kitten released the studio albums “Feels So Good” and “Ladies Night”, as well as a greatest hits compilation. “Feels So Good” also achieved double platinum status in the UK.

The group had three UK number-one singles: Whole Again, Eternal Flame (a cover of the Bangles) and The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling) (originally recorded by the Paragons). Atomic Kitten has sold over 10 million records worldwide.

After sporadic appearances between 2005 and 2008, Liz McClarnon, Natasha Hamilton and Kerry Katona reunited for the ITV2 series “The Big Reunion”, alongside pop groups B*Witched, Five, Liberty X, Honeyz and 911; Jenny Frost could not participate due to pregnancy.

Kerry Katona left the group a second time in December 2017. Jenny Frost returned briefly in 2021 before leaving again, and Natasha Hamilton announced her departure in October 2024 to focus on solo projects.
