Biography
Anya, born Ana Buxai, is a Romanian singer born on 22 July 1986 in Sibiu. She began music early, studying singing in primary school and taking guitar lessons in high school.
She became known as the lead singer of the dance group Hi-Q, which she joined in April 2008. For two years she contributed to the group’s success with tracks such as Așa-s prietenii and Lose You, helping them return to the top of the charts. She left Hi-Q in February 2010 following disagreements with her colleague Mihai Sturzu.
The same year Anya launched a solo career. Her first single, a collaboration with DJ Jay Ko whom she met in a Sibiu nightclub, was One, which reached number one on the Romanian Top 100 and received wide international airplay, notably in the Netherlands, Poland, Bulgaria, Belgium and China.
Her second single, Beautiful World, also reached number one in Romania, gained strong popularity abroad and has amassed over 5 million online views. In autumn 2011 she released Fool Me, which had similar radio success and totals over 6 million internet views.
