Andreea Balan

Biography

Andreea Georgiana Bǎlan, born 23 June 1984 in Ploiești, is a Romanian singer, dancer and actress.

She rose to fame at age 12 as a member of the group Andre, alongside Andreea Antonescu. As one of Romania’s most successful girl bands, they were nicknamed «The Queens of Romanian Dance Music». Their success was confirmed by sales exceeding 1,500,000 records in three years, earning five platinum records and one gold, notably for tracks like Libera La Mare.

She began a solo career in 2001–2002, continuing in pop with songs such as Te Joci Cu Mine, Te Iubesc and Libera Din Nou. From 2004 she moved toward a sound blending Romanian heritage and modernity, with songs like Prinde-Ma, Aprinde-Ma, Aparente and Nopti De Vara.

A complete performer, she also stands out for dance: in 2007 she represented Romania at the international contest «Bailando por un sueño» in Mexico with Petrisor Ruge, where she finished second, performing her single Baby, Get Up And Dance. The following year, in 2008, she won Romania’s version of «Dancing with the Stars».

She lives in Bucharest and considers the stage her magic world: «I want to entertain people, I live to be an entertainer. I am happiest when I am on stage; it’s my magic world where I can tell my story, the story of how dance and music can unite and make you happy». Her evolution is reflected in complex shows combining music and choreography.
