Andreas Johnson

Andreas Johnson

Biography

Jon Erik Andreas Johnson was born on 22 March 1970 in Lund, in southern Sweden. He is the son of Marie and Gigge Johnson, both jazz musicians, and he has an older brother named Olof. His childhood was steeped in music, growing up quite literally on the roads and stages of his parents’ tours, where he served as a mascot and often took the microphone.

During his adolescence, the family eventually settled in a suburb of Stockholm. Faced with a choice between sports, drugs, or music, he firmly chose the latter. He cut his teeth in small bands such as Silver Arrow, whose very first school gig was a memorable fiasco.

In 1993, he began his music career as the singer of the band Planet Waves, inspired by Bob Dylan. The group released only one album, Brutal Awakenings, before splitting up between 1995 and 1996 due to deep internal conflicts that sometimes escalated into physical confrontations.

Andreas Johnson then launched a solo career and released his first solo album, Cottonfish Tales. In 1999, he achieved international success with the single Glorious, which later appeared on the album Liebling. The track was widely used in advertisements for brands such as Volvo, Nutella, and Vauxhall.

His third solo album, Deadly Happy, came out in 2002, followed by Mr Johnson, Your Room Is On Fire in 2005. In 2007, he released a greatest-hits compilation titled The Collector.
