Alice Deejay

Biography

Alice Deejay is a Dutch eurodance project, founded and produced by Wessel van Diepen, Dennis van den Driesschen, Sebastiaan Molijn and Eelke Kalberg; the duo is also known as Pronti & Kalmani.
The project rose to prominence fronted by singer Judith Anna Pronk.

Formed in 1998, the act launched its career with the debut single Better Off Alone, initially credited to DJ Jurgen presents Alice Deejay.
The track became a worldwide hit, selling over five million singles and reaching the top 10 in many European countries as well as in North America.
In the United Kingdom it was certified platinum and peaked at number 2, while in the United States it reached number 3 on Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play and number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Their second single, Back in My Life, released in November 1999, hit number 1 in Norway and entered the top 10 in Denmark, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Their only album, Who Needs Guitars Anyway?, was released in March 2000 and made the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart.
Three more singles followed—Will I Ever, The Lonely One and Celebrate Our Love—all of which charted in the UK top 20.
On stage, Judith Pronk was joined by backing vocalists for live performances in clubs and dance venues.

The original lineup gave its last performance together in 2002.
After more than a decade of inactivity, the producers revived the project in 2014 with a new singer, Dutch artist Ilona Mitrecey, under the slightly modified name “Alice DJ,” and began a new tour.

In October 2021, more than twenty years after her last appearance, Judith Pronk returned to Alice Deejay for a reunion tour across Europe.
Her comeback took place on 16 October 2021 at the Ethias Arena in Belgium, and her final performance was held on 14 December 2024 at the Kubix Festival in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
