Laura Jansen
Biography
Laura Jansen, born on March 4, 1977 in Breda, is a Dutch-American singer-songwriter and pianist based in Los Angeles. Holding dual nationality, she first gained recognition by performing regularly at the famous live music club The Hotel Café, a venue that has served as a springboard for many artists.
Her music, an intimate and atmospheric alternative pop centered around the piano, has been featured in several television shows. In the United States, she self-released two EPs, Trauma in 2007 and Single Girls in 2009.
In 2009, a series of concerts in the Netherlands led to her signing with Universal Music. Her debut album, Bells, released the same year, compiles her two previous EPs and includes a cover of Use Somebody. The album was a major success in her home country, reaching number one on iTunes and achieving platinum status, driven by the single Single Girls and her cover which remained in the Dutch Top 25 for over six months.
She has toured extensively, first accompanying Joshua Radin in his band in 2008, then with William Fitzsimmons in 2009 both as a musician and as an opening act. In 2010, she performed two sold-out tours in the Netherlands before playing in Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom. Her album Bells was distributed in the United States, the rest of Europe, and China in 2011.
