Biography
Elissa is a pseudonym of Mimma Palazzolo-Bucarelli.
A native of Toronto, Canada, she has been active in the music scene since childhood and participated in the dance project Estrella.
She toured across North America (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, San Antonio, San Diego, Miami, New York), building a loyal fanbase.
Her first freestyle single Show Me How You Love Me, released on Metropolitan and Ti Amo Records, achieved major radio success in Canada and the United States and in 1996 “bubbled under” the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.
The single Bailando received heavy airplay and placements on National CHR and Dance Charts.
Mamboleo reached the Top 20 on the national Canadian CHR Charts and debuted as the #6 top selling single in Canada in late 1999/early 2000, earning heavy rotation on Kiss 98:5 FM Buffalo.
In 2000, Back To Me held the #1 position on Toronto’s Hit Music Station Z103:5 FM Freestyle Frenzy program and received strong support on the Johnny Budz mix show on WKTU 103:5 FM New York.
In 2001, Mamboleo earned nominations at the Canadian Music Radio Awards (Best New Solo Artist, Best Rhythmic/R&B Artist), and Back To Me was a #1 record in Brazil, signed to Spottlight Records.
She has produced for dance artists worldwide, including Lil Suzy, contributing to the 2001 single Treat Me Right in Canada. Her long-awaited full-length dance album was released in North America; the Canadian release of The Light, remixed by the European producers behind the Becca project, won a Canadian Indies Award and received a Juno Award nomination in 2002 for Best Dance Recording.
