Felly
Biography
The artist’s full name is Felly Kilingi Munga.
Felly was a model and dancer hired to embody the face of the Technotronic project. This decision was made because the group’s actual singer and rapper, Ya Kid K, was deemed not photogenic enough and, being only 17 years old and still in school, could not perform live concerts.
Thus, he appears in the music video for the international hit Pump Up The Jam, lip-syncing to the lyrics, while the voices were actually those of Ya Kid K. In fact, his voice does not appear on any of Technotronic‘s productions, and all vocal credits attributed to him are incorrect.
The revelation of this deception came in the context of the lip-syncing scandals involving Milli Vanilli and Black Box. Consequently, the video for Technotronic‘s next hit, Get Up (Before The Night Is Over), featured Ya Kid K singing, relegating Felly to a background dancer role, although the vocal role on the track remained identical.
Felly left the group shortly after and embarked on a very brief and inconclusive solo career, this time using her own voice.
