Biography

Dougal, real name Paul Clarke, is a DJ and producer from Northampton, United Kingdom.

He began mixing house music as a teenager. During a placement at Spectra Sound & Lighting, he helped install systems for ESP Promotions, run by Murray Beetson. Beetson then booked him for an ESP night, which led to Dougal becoming a resident at the Equinox Milwaukees club.

His association with ESP continued, with residencies at their other events such as Dreamcape at the Sanctuary, and he also played regularly for Helter Skelter.

In 1994, he co-founded the Essential Platinum label with Hixxy. He has been a regular contributor to the Bonkers compilation series. He is also a co-owner of the Borjia nightclub in Northampton.

In his family, his sister is the artist Sarah Clarke and his father is rave photographer Gary Clarke.

He has used several aliases, including Dr. Who, Paul Clarke and Øutcry, as well as D.J. Dougal, DJ Dougal, Dougal/Essential Platinum and P. Dougal.

He frequently collaborates with other artists in his genre, notably Gammer, and they regularly perform as Dougal & Gammer.
