Lykke LI

Lykke LI

Biography

Lykke Li, whose full name is Li Lykke Timotej Svensson Zachrisson, is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and model, born on 18 March 1986 in Ystad.

She grew up in an artistically stimulating environment as the daughter of photographer and former Tant Strul member Kärsti Stiege, and musician Johan Zachrisson, who played in the Swedish reggae and progg outfit Dag Vag. Her brother, Zacharias Zachrisson, also pursued a music career. The family traveled extensively, living in Stockholm, Portugal, Nepal, and India, exposing Lykke Li to diverse cultural and musical influences from an early age.

At 19, she spent several months in Brooklyn, New York, immersing herself in the local music scene. Two years later, at 21, she returned to record her debut album *Youth Novels*, produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John and Lasse Mårtén. Released in Sweden on 30 January 2008 and later internationally, the album was praised for its confessional lyrics and minimalist production. The single Little Bit brought her particular attention.

Her sound, often described as a blend of indie pop, dream pop, and electronic music, evolved across her releases. She explored themes of love and melancholy on *Wounded Rhymes* (2011) and *I Never Learn* (2014). *Wounded Rhymes* earned her two Swedish Grammis in 2012: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.

Lykke Li has collaborated with several notable electronic artists, lending her voice to tracks such as Until We Bleed with Kleerup, as well as Miss It So Much and Were You Ever Wanted with the duo Röyksopp.

In 2016, she co-founded the band LIV with members of Miike Snow and Peter Bjorn and John. Her fourth album, *So Sad So Sexy* (2018), marked a shift toward a more mainstream Pop sound, before she returned to a more introspective and experimental approach with *Eyeye* in 2022.

Her career has been defined by an ethereal, sensual voice and a personal fusion of independent Pop and electronic elements, solidifying her place in contemporary music.
