Katerina

Biography

Katerina is a Russian singer born in Latvia. She is the youngest of three siblings, with an older sister and a brother.

Music has been part of her life since childhood, including attending classical concerts where her sister performed. At home she also grew up around TV concerts, piano music, and her mother singing. Her voice was noticed early by a teacher (in first grade), who encouraged her parents to let her sing.

She started in the school choir and soon performed as a solo singer at school events. When she was 8, she asked to enroll in a music school and studied there for 7 years alongside gymnasium. At 9, she formed a girls’ group with three neighborhood friends, singing Spice Girls songs for the neighbors; she took the leadership role seriously, organizing choreography and costume design.

After finishing music school, she realized that becoming a famous singer was her main goal. At 15, she decided to study classical singing at a musical college while also attending a mathematics high school. She also took private vocal lessons to broaden her repertoire toward Pop, Jazz, Soul, and Folk.

After high school she attended a business university. At 21, she became a member of a music group as a prize for winning a major music contest in Riga.

In 2012, at a Pop festival, she met her manager Ernest Hadrian Böhm while performing One moment in time. He proposed building a solo Dance music project for her. In 2013, she signed her first management contract with Mango Records, a production house managed by former Akcent members Mihai Gruia and Sorin Brotnei; this is when the stage name “Katerina” was born.

She then worked in studios to prepare her debut. Her debut single Blackboard was produced by HaHaHa Production, Serban Cazan, and Mike Hadisson, and recorded in two versions (English and Russian). The video shoots for Blackboard (English version) and Если хочешь ты (Russian version), directed by Anthony Icuagu, began in early 2014 and were released on March 31, 2014. Blackboard entered Top 40 radio charts in several European countries, with its best result in Poland, reaching #4 for one week.

In May 2016, her second single Remember, produced by Deepside Deejays, was released, alongside a video shoot in Miami, El Gouna, and Hurghada.

Over the years, Katerina has sung in more than 400 concerts worldwide. Alongside her own songs, her repertoire includes well-known pieces from classical music as well as Pop, Soul, Dance, and Jazz, including “Diva dance aria” (the movie “The 5th element”), Non je ne regrette rien, “And I am telling you” (Jennifer Hudson), and “Listen” (Beyonce).
