Deepest Blue
Biography
Deepest Blue is a British electronic music project formed by producer and composer Matt Schwartz and singer-songwriter Joel Edwards, launched under the auspices of the Ministry Of Sound label.
Their eponymous debut single, Deepest Blue, released in summer 2003, reached No. 7 on the UK charts. An early strategy aimed to make the public think they were a short-lived hit act, but they quickly followed with a second success, Give It Away, which hit No. 9 in early 2004.
The duo later moved away from club-oriented house and dance to explore more downtempo territory on Open, Ministry’s alternative imprint. They released the singles Is It A Sin and Shooting Star. Their debut album, *Late September*, came out in June 2004 and reached No. 22 on the UK charts.
The group split in 2005 so each could pursue solo projects, before reforming in 2008. A classically trained violinist born in Israel, Matt Schwartz had previously collaborated with artists such as Massive Attack, contributing to the writing of Dissolved Girl for the album *Mezzanine*. Joel Edwards worked with Chicane, Ed Case and Planet Funk, and produced remixes under the pseudonym “Dead Guys”.
Their track Shooting Star was used as background music for Sky Sports News between 2004 and 2007.
