Corinna Jane

Biography

Corinna Jane is a Franco-British singer-songwriter, born in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. She grew up mainly in England, in Northamptonshire, and was raised speaking English, French and German.

Her passion for music began early, fuelled by MTV broadcasts in the 1990s. She started playing melodies by ear on the piano as a child, took lessons at age five and composed her first piece, Rainy Afternoon, at six. At eight she moved to the UK where she continued pursuing music and learned guitar in early adolescence.

She kept writing songs and in 2005 her track Resistance was chosen as hot track of the week on Pulse Rated, earning her 20,000 plays on Myspace almost instantly. One of her highlights was being invited to New York in 2007, aged seventeen, to record three tracks thanks to New York songwriter Teddy Christman and Grammy‑winning producer Fred Guarino; during that visit she was also invited to play at a party on a large Long Island estate used for major adverts and TV series like Gossip Girl.

Eager to maintain her multilingual skills, Corinna studied French and German at the University of Bristol. While there she won the local singer‑songwriter competition The Axe Factor against around a hundred entrants, which led to a deal with local independent label Viper Music (which she has since left). In the summer she successfully toured North Rhine-Westphalia with local singer‑songwriter Benjamin Sazewa, attracting local press attention.

In summer 2010 she performed at the Bitter End, New York’s oldest rock club on Bleaker Street, on the same stage where artists like Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder or Lady Gaga played before they were famous. The same year she recorded her EP at Rooksmere Studios in Northamptonshire, including the track Shouting At The Ghost, which was later added to Amazing Radio playlists and played on BBC Introducing Bristol and Northampton.

During her year abroad in 2011 she spent several months in Berlin and Paris: in Berlin she interned at radio station 104.6 RTL and was invited by major local station RBB Radio Eins for a primetime show, where she was interviewed in German and performed her acoustic song Overcast Day; in Paris she filmed a video for Shouting At The Ghost with graduates Thibault Ciesielski and Yann Guyot from the Institut International de l’Image et du Son, who worked creatively without a budget.

Since returning to the UK she has collaborated with producer Jono Buchanan of West 4 Music. Corinna Jane is currently based in Northampton, England.
