Tatana

Biography

Taťána Štěrbová, known as Tatana, born 7 October 1976 in Uherské Hradiště (Czechoslovakia), emigrated to Switzerland with her family in 1980. She is a major figure of the Swiss trance scene and also performs under the pseudonym DJ Tatana.

From 1998, after mixing the CD ‘Live at Street Parade’, she became an essential reference: her performances at events such as ‘Energy’, ‘Evolution’, ‘Goliath’ or ‘Motion’ consistently draw crowds. The English magazine ‘M8’ praised the remarkable construction of her sets.

As a producer, she has signed hits like Dream Off, End Of Time (with DJ Energy) and Words, and compiled several editions of the ‘Energy’ series, including ‘Energy 2001’ (platinum) and ‘Energy 2002’ (gold), as well as ‘Energy The Annual’ (01 and 02).

Her musical training began early: learning several instruments and practicing ballet and jazz. Immersed in the emerging Swiss techno and house scene, she met key industry figures. Her first notable performance took place in May 1994, at age seventeen, at a Groodonia party in Rümlang.

After concerts around Zurich, she went on to major events (Futurescope, Evolution, Magic Kingdom, Metropolis). Her first production was released in 1997 on the Liquid Records label, produced at Polaris Studio in Frankfurt with German producer Torsten Stenzel (known for Taucher and DJ Sakin & Friends).

1998 saw her set for the Street Parade and for Energy ’98, the release of the EP ‘Tatana – The second Chapter E.P’ and her first mix-CD ‘Tatana The Mix Vol. 1’. In 1999 she produced the single ‘End of Time’ with DJ Energy, mixed the ‘Goliath’ CD and produced the official CD of the Zurich Street Parade, including her anthem ‘More Than Words’.

In 2000 her mix-CD ’24 Karat’ reached number 9 on the official Swiss charts. With the group M.O.P.E she developed an unprecedented live act, presented at the ‘Heitere Open Air’ in Zofingen and at Energy 00 in the Hallenstadion. Her mix-CD ‘Pure Elements’ (Nov. 2000) immediately conquered the Swiss market.

The mix-album ‘Pink Punk’ (May 2001) climbed to number 5 on the charts and set the stage for ‘Superpop’. She is also the owner of the Swiss trance label Sirup.
