Ya Kid K
Biography
Ya Kid K, born Manuela Barbra Moasco Kamosi, was born on January 26, 1972 in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
She is the older sister of artist Leki (Karoline Kamosi) and the wife of Jonathan Kamosi, for whom she has co-produced some songs.
She moved to Belgium at age 11 and later lived in Chicago, United States, where she discovered rap and deep house. Back in Belgium, she partnered with Jo Bogaert, founder of the dance music project Technotronic.
Although uncredited, she took part in the huge international 1989 hit Pump Up The Jam. She then appeared alongside her professional and personal partner, MC Eric, on the hit This Beat Is Technotronic, and their collaboration continued with the worldwide success Get Up! (Before The Night Is Over).
In 1990 she appears on Spin That Wheel and contributed the track Awesome to the soundtrack of the film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II”.
The birth of a child then interrupted her projects: her nascent solo career, marked by an underperforming album despite the US hit single Move This, lost momentum.
Since then she has made occasional appearances, notably with Technotronic on the 1995 album “Recall” and on the June 2000 single The Mariachi. In 2002 she released the track Take A Trip on Semini Records.
