Corona

Corona

Biography

Corona is an Italian eurodance project active since 1993. Production was initially handled by Francesco Bontempi (aka Lee Marrow) until 2000, and from that date by Francesco Conte and Paolo Dughero. Producers Giorgio Spagna and Ivana Spagna also worked on the project.

The first major hit was The Rhythm of the Night (1993/94); the voice on that track was Giovanna Bersola (aka Jenny B.), while Olga Maria de Souza performed the on-stage and video playback. All other Corona singles up to 1998 were sung by Sandy Chambers (aka Sandy).

Several tracks are covers or draw on earlier works: Baby Baby is a cover of Babe Babe (1991), itself based on the chorus of K.I.S.S.I.N.G (1988). The single Try Me Out had already been released in 1993 by Lee Marrow featuring Charme (aka Annerley Gordon). I Don't Wanna Be A Star borrows heavily from Can't Fake The Feeling (1980), and The Rhythm of the Night is based on the verses of Save Me (1987).

More recent Corona singles credit Olga Maria de Souza as singer and songwriter, but this may be inaccurate given the project’s early pattern. Members and collaborators include Sandy Chambers, Francesco Conte, Francesco Bontempi, Olga Maria de Souza, Paolo Dughero, Giovanna Bersola and Thomas Rückert.
