The Course

The Course

Biography

The Course was a Dutch electronic music project, active in the 1990s, formed by DJ and producer Vincent Hendriks and singer Dewi Lopulalan. The duo first met in 1990 at the final of the Dutch mixing championship (DMC), where Hendriks was already a recognized figure, having won the title of Dutch mixing champion several times. They met again in 1996, on the occasion of another DMC final, and decided to collaborate musically.

Their first single, Ready or Not, a dance cover of the 1996 hit by The Fugees, was released in early 1997. The track was an immediate commercial success, reaching number 5 on the UK singles chart in April 1997. Their success was confirmed with the following single, an energetic cover of Ain't Nobody, which reached number 8 in the UK in July of the same year.

Their third single, Best Love, failed to replicate this success, reaching only number 51 in December 1997. Subsequent singles also failed to meet expectations, leading the group to be sometimes labeled a “two-hit wonder”. The lack of commercial success after the first two tracks led to the group’s split in the late 1990s.

Their 1997 album, also titled “Ready or Not”, included the two hits as well as more R&B-oriented tracks, including the single Missing You, featuring rapper Spyte from the group King Bee.
