Biography

Tom Wilson, real name Thomas Gormley Wilson, was a Scottish DJ, producer, and radio presenter, born on October 9, 1951, and died on March 25, 2004, in Edinburgh.

His career was marked by the legendary radio show “Steppin’ Out,” dedicated to dance music, which he hosted from 1985 to 1999 on Forth FM. Broadcast in the east and central Scotland, it was a phenomenal success, with listeners exchanging recordings worldwide. In the mid-1990s, he also launched “Bonus Beats” on the same station.

A highly sought-after club DJ, he performed at renowned events and clubs such as Awesome 101, Fantazia, Rezerection, and The Fubar. As a producer, he is known for the classic track Techno Cat, which entered the UK Top 40 and charted in several European countries.

He compiled several series such as “Bouncin’ Back” and “Bouncin’ Beats.” After a stint at Beat 106 and Real Radio, he returned to Radio Forth in 2003 as music manager for Forth One and Forth 2, hosting shows including “Tom Wilson’s Old Skool” on Sunday nights. He was managed by Ian Robertson, the producer of “Steppin’ Out.” Craig Wilson (2) is his son.

He is primarily remembered for his lasting and influential contribution to the Scottish dance music scene.
